We would like to provide more information and details regarding the Prefects Leadership Camp that would be held on 26 - 27 June 2015.
Reporting Date/Time: 26 June, 8.30am
Reporting Venue: School Canteen
Dismissal Date/Time: 27 June, 3.30pm
We would also be updating the website to provide updates during the activities.
1. What is the exact location of the camp?
The camp would be held at the Singapore Zoological Gardens where students will get to attend workshops, learn more about endangered animals as well as participate in games and activities that promote leadership. The activities would be held at various locations in the zoo e.g., Leadership games/activities would be held at Kidz World.
2. How many teachers/students would be going for the camp?
There would be a total of 40 Prefects, made up of Primary 4 and 5 students as well as 4 accompany WRPS teachers and 3 certified trainers from the zoo.
3. Where will they be staying?
Students would be spending the night in the tent at the Pavilion by the lake. In case of wet weather, they would sleep either in the sheltered pavilion or the auditorium, depending on weather conditions. Teachers would be taking turns to be on night duty to ensure safety of the students.
4. The camp is being held during the fasting month, are there any accommodations made for the muslim pupils?
For the muslim pupils, we have prepared packed sandwiches for their breakfast before they start their fast. Also, we would be serving packed dinner when they break fast in the evening. Teachers will also ensure their well being throughout the camp and would not allow them to participate in the activities if they are feeling unwell.
5. In case of emergencies, are there any procedures put in place to ensure safety of the students?
All trainers from the zoo are first-aid trained and there is a 24-hours standby safety vehicle to ferry students to Khoo Teck Puat hospital in case of emergency.
6. Would the activities be too strenuous for my child?
The focus of the leadership camp this year lies in environmental conservation and learning about endangered animals. Leadership and confidence building activities (E.g., Spiderweb and Amazing Race) are less intensive for this camp as we want to provide a different experience form the Primary 5 Cohort Camp which they have attended in March.
Therefore, we are more focused in developing our students' soft skills in reflective thinking, communication and event management. Students would embark on their post camp activities on sharing about endangered animals and environmental conservation through assembly talks and poster displays. They would also be in charge of coming up with poster displays, duty roosters, Power Point slides and the assembly speech under the guidance of teachers.
7. What kind of activities would the prefects be participating in?
Please do refer to the itinerary below for a more detailed description of the activities the students will be participating.
